Preservation Louisville hosts the Hands On History educational workshop series, designed to give participants an in-depth look at various preservation techniques and methods of maintaining and restoring historic buildings. Throughout the series, participants will learn practical, hands-on techniques for working with original materials and finishes to maintain, restore and preserve historic elements.

Led by architect Gary Kleier, the workshop will explore components of a historic home and highlight how preservation can be the ultimate in "green" living. With 33 years of experience, and specialties in historic renovation, restoration, and applying green concepts in historic structures, Kleier is sure to help those dealing with rehabilitation issues in a historic home who are interested in achieving the most environmentally friendly results in the most cost efficient manner.
Workshops are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 1-4 pm, September through April at The Brennan House Historic Home, 631 S. 5th St.. The registration fee is $20 for Preservation Louisville Members or $30 for non members.
The 2014-15 Hands On History Series will feature the following workshops: Restoring Historic Wood Windows, Restoring Plaster, Paint: Historic Colors, Tips & Techniques, Researching Your Old Home, Planning a Project in Preservation Districts, "I want to buy an old building- What should I know?", Do's and Dont's of Restoration, and Preserving Stained Glass.

Preservation Louisville, Inc. is co-sponsoring Historic Preservation Tax Credit Workshops. These workshops will be held quarterly and meant to help property owner learn how to utilize the historic preservation tax credit. Preservation Louisville along with the Kentucky Heritage Council will work with the workshop participants on how to properly finish the three part application for the historic preservation tax credit.

Led by, Mr. Joe Pierson, Historic Preservation Tax Credit Consultant with Pinion Advisors. Mr. Pierson will share with participants his in-depth knowledge of qualifying and applying for Federal and State Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits that can equal up to 30% of their rehabilitation project's cost. He will also provide one-on-one assistance with questions they may have about rehabilitating their historic commercial building or home utilizing the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.
